Privacy

A plain-language look at what the WMOverland public website does—and does not—collect.

Our approach to privacy

WMOverland does not use the public website to build visitor profiles, serve targeted advertising or track people across websites. The public site does not use third-party analytics services, and an account is not required simply to browse WMOverland.

Information you choose to provide

Ordinary public browsing does not ask you to provide personal information to WMOverland. If you choose to contact WMOverland by email, the message and information you include are provided voluntarily and may be retained as needed to read, respond to or otherwise handle your message.

Routine server and security logs

Like most websites, the web server, hosting provider or security systems may create routine technical logs when requests are made to WMOverland. Those logs can include information such as an IP address, requested URL, date and time, browser or user-agent information, referrer information and request status.

This routine technical logging is used for purposes such as operating the website, troubleshooting problems, investigating errors and protecting the site from abuse or security threats. WMOverland does not intentionally use routine request logs to build profiles of public visitors for advertising or behavioral tracking.

Cookies and browser storage

The public WMOverland site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Public features are not designed to store persistent visitor profiles in browser local storage or session storage.

Administrative areas use session-based authentication for authorized site administration. Those administrative controls and their session cookies are not part of ordinary public browsing.

Trail Talk / Discussion Forge

Trail Talk is powered by the Discussion Forge deck generator and is presented as part of WMOverland. Deck generation takes place in your browser using card catalogs and application files loaded from WMOverland.

Your deck selections, generation seed, generated deck and downloaded manifest are not intentionally submitted to or stored by WMOverland as part of the deck-generation process. A manifest you choose to download is created for you in the browser and remains under your control unless you independently choose to share it.

Requests needed to load Trail Talk itself—including its page, scripts, styles, card catalogs, themes and other assets—may still appear in the routine server and security logs described above.

Interactive maps

WMOverland interactive maps may use map tiles or imagery supplied by external mapping providers. When an interactive map loads a selected map layer, your browser may connect directly to that provider to retrieve the tiles or imagery needed to display the map.

Those requests are handled under the external provider's own privacy practices. WMOverland does not use those map requests to create its own visitor tracking profile.

Gallery and YouTube

Gallery pages may display YouTube thumbnails and may offer videos hosted by YouTube. Loading a thumbnail can cause your browser to request the image from YouTube's infrastructure. If you choose to play an embedded YouTube video, your browser will connect to YouTube using its privacy-enhanced embed service.

Those connections are subject to YouTube's own privacy practices. WMOverland does not receive your YouTube account information through the Gallery.

External links

WMOverland includes links to other websites and services. Following one of those links takes you outside WMOverland, where the destination site's own privacy practices apply.

Changes to this page

This page may be updated when WMOverland adds or changes features that affect how information is handled. The date above will be updated when this statement changes.
